The Holding was established in 2008 by merging media assets belonging to AB Russia, Alexey Mordashov, Surgutneftegaz, and the Sogas  Insurance Group. Today NMG provides management of a diversified portfolio of assets in key segments of the Russian media market, ensuring stable growth in capitalization and competitiveness.

The Holding takes leading positions in the television segment by acquiring stakes in “Channel One” and “Ren TV”. NMG also enters the radio segment by including the leading news radio station “Russian News Service” in its portfolio.
The Group reinforces its positions in the print media segment through acquiring a popular regional newspaper “Metro-Petersburg” and increasing its stake in the federal newspaper “Izvestiya”.

The Holding enters the market of TV and film production by acquiring stake in “Art Pictures Vision”.

Strategic partnership with Discovery Communications in the management  of Russian-language channels of Discovery Group (11 channels, including  Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet and Eurosport).
